Fiber Optic Protection

Application

Pyrometers, or infrared non-contact thermometers, when used in pipe tempering operations often employ fiber optics in order to obtain temperature readings at various spots on the pipe. Heating the pipe subjects the fiber optic head and lens to high heat and gasses which coat the lens and require regular cleaning. In many instances the combination of heat and vapor causes the lens to fall out of the fiber housing resulting in a very expensive repair.

Product

Our Fiber Optic Lens Protector is installed in the same holder the fiber optic head would be mounted. Simply install the Fiber Optic Lens Protector into the fiber optic holder, then insert the fiber optic head into the Protector. Snug the thumb screw to secure the fiber head and forget your worries about fiber optic damage.

The Fiber Optic Lens Protector, was designed and built specifically for the Williamson Corporation’s PRO 90-10 pyrometer with a sensing range of 700 – 2100F. The PRO 90-10 utilizes a fiber optic cable that has a lens encased in a metal barrel enabling the electronics to be mounted in an area away from direct heat.

The Fiber Optic Protector is available directly from Williamson Corp as their Part # FOMAQ or contact us for OEM pricing.

The Fiber Optic Lens Protector has been in service for over 3 years. To our knowledge there has not been a single repair to a fiber optic cable during this time as a result of environmental damage. Results are reduced down time and thousands of dollars saved in repairs.
